On February 14, 1912, Arizona became the 48th and final contiguous state to be adopted by the United. In 1821, it became a part of the new Mexican state of Alta California, which had previously been part of New Spain. Due to Mexico’s defeat in the War With mexico, the United States gained control of much of this land in 1848. The Gadsden Purchase of 1853 brought the southernmost part of the state into the Union.
The desert climate of southern Arizona is well-known, with hot warm summers and cold winters. As compared to the rest of the state, the climate in Northern Arizona is much more temperate, with mild summers and significant cold weather snowfalls. The Colorado Plateau and mountains like the San Diego Mountains can also be found here. Flagstaff, Mountain, and Tucson all have ski resorts. Canyon National Park is just one of a number of well-known national parks and monuments that can be found in the United States’ vast natural landscape.
